Dear all –
I’ve made it to China safe and sound. My flight to Chicago went well, and I had a big layover there before my plane left for Beijing. As I was getting off the plane, I met a [Passion] volunteer from Iowa named Roger. We ended up chatting about all of the great stuff that the Father is doing around the world, and here in the states too. He didn’t hear about Jessie because they blocked the signal from being heard around the world, for safety reasons. It was good to talk to him and receive encouragement, even though I’m not used to talking to strangers like that, haha.
So I’d like to give a shout-out for Morgan right now. She suggested that I get some sleep aid for the flight over, and it is some amazing stuff. The flight was about 12-13 hours and I slept for at least 10 of those. Thus, I really don’t know how long the flight was… The plane wasn’t crowded at all, and I had two seats for myself. I curled up in the two.
I landed in Beijing without any problems, went through customs, and took a shuttle bus into the city. Then I took a taxi to the University, and I think I have gotten jipped, but I can’t be sure… Finally went to bed around 2:00 this morning, after finding that my room doesn’t have any amenities – toilet paper, soap, cups, nothing.
I woke up at 7, and I’ve spent the morning waiting on banks to open here, so that I could pay for my hotel! It's a little expensive, but the room is very nice. And if another student comes to stay in the hotel, I’ve requested that they sleep in here because that’ll half the cost of living here.
I haven’t seen too much of the city, but I’m going to shower now and see some sites.
Love,
Jamey
