Monday February 29th 2011

Today was everything that I expected it would be but hoped it would not. The teachers had some degree of mercy on us for the quiz, and the format was a little easier than the norm. The rest of the day was spent talking about the marginally interesting lesson for the week, but I don’t think that anyone – I know that I couldn’t, and I deduced that no one else could either – keep their mind on anything other than the demon lurking at the end of the week.

After class, I came back to the dorm and read some articles about Chinese investment in Africa, wrote some emails, and studied some for my Chinese test. Then, I went over to Bally for a little while, and worked on finishing the 1,200-word essay; it is due tomorrow. Then I worked on my other speaking presentation for the evening. It turns out that reading two dense, scholarly articles on Chinese investment in Africa is not the best thing to do when you are about to have to write an essay in Chinese. My brain ceased to function after about 700 characters, and the rest of the paper took me forever.

Around 7:30 I got some supper with Chris, Luke, Cliff, Vinod, Will, and Liam. We had a bro night at the noodle restaurant across the street, and whined a good bit about how bad this week was going to be.

Then, I returned to the room, and tried to finish the essay. I was not met with much success. I finally finished after 12:30 and went to bed. Yuki is still up…

I’ll write soon (if this week doesn’t kill me)!

Love,

Jamey
